Matt Somerford has almost two decades of experience working as a journalist, editor and as a multi-platform content producer for world-renowned sporting organisations.

Regularly published in the pages of newspapers and media outlets across the world, he has covered major events such as the Olympic Games, Premier League and cricket’s World Cup.

He is also a respected sub-editor and video journalist with an innovative approach to modern story-telling via social media platforms.

A passionate sports fan – you want him on your quiz team – who grew up watching and playing AFL and cricket in Australia before moving to England where he met his wife Nicola and has two wonderful young children, Orla and Harry.

A brief history of employment:

Press Association Sport – A decade of experience in the 24-hour newsroom of the UK’s largest news agency working as a duty editor and sub-editor. As a reporter he has travelled the world covering major events.

Snappa – A duty-editor for Press Association’s innovative Snappa service, aimed at the 18-34 year-old demographic. Led a team of young journalists creating content guided by social media trends and analytics for companies such as BT, AOL and Lonely Planet.

England and Wales Cricket Board – The Senior Content Producer for the ECB’s website and its social media platforms. Highly respected within the ECB for innovative story-telling to promote its teams, players, competitions and stakeholders.

European Tour – A blogger for the European Tour’s golf events from across the world in addition to writing daily reports and stories.

Radio City Liverpool – Radio appearances to discuss the latest cricket news.

Fox Sports Australia – Television interviews for Australia’s premier pay TV provider.

Wright Media – Editor of publications such as the WAFL Budget, the Perth Glory matchday program and the National Basketball League magazine. Led a team of journalists across the Antipodes while planning and designing pages for the magazines.
